Moors beaten at York Road...

Solihull Moors’ five-game unbeaten run came to an end as Maidenhead United took the three points at York Road.

All of the goals came in the second half, with Stephen Gleeson opening the scoring from the penalty spot on the 50-minute mark.

But it was Maidenhead’s Sam Barratt who stole the show with a hat-trick, two of those also coming from 12 yards out.

Jimmy Shan gave debuts to Kyle Hudlin and Krystian Pearce, while fellow recent signing Justin Donawa took his place on the bench.

The Moors found joy early on and particularly down the right-hand side where Cameron Coxe had acres of space to play into. Callum Maycock worked the ball out to the Welshman before he danced past a couple of home defenders and saw his progress halted right at the last.

Former Moors striker Nathan Blissett was leading the line for Alan Devonshire’s side and he took aim from distance, only to find Ryan Boot in the way who tipped it round the post, although the referee failed to see the touch.

Boot, who hadn’t conceded in five successive matches, showed his quality to palm away a Dan Sparkes free-kick that looked to be heading into the corner.

Then came another opening for the Moors as Hudlin’s flick found the run of Maycock. He did well to hold off Alan Massey, but found Taye Ashby-Hammond standing firm to save, before the defence headed clear.

From the resulting corner, Jordan Cranston found the head of Hudlin who nodded inches wide of the post.

Hudlin then showed the strength he possesses to hold off his marker and force Ashby-Hammond into a smart, albeit routine, save down low.

Half-time: Maidenhead United 0-0 Solihull Moors

It was the ideal start to the second half for Moors as Coxe was brought down inside the area, and the referee didn’t hesitate to point to the spot. Gleeson stepped up and smashed his penalty straight down the middle to net his first for the club.

However, the lead lasted just six minutes as Barratt let fly from distance and it flashed past Boot into the bottom corner.

With the game evenly poised Moors were wondering how they didn’t regain the lead with 15 minutes remaining. Cranston’s corner was headed back across goal by Pearce and a combination of Hudlin and Tyrone Williams were unable to squeeze it home.

The home side were awarded a penalty of their own when Williams was judged to have handled inside the area. Barratt made no mistake in putting his side in front for the first time with seven to play.

On 88 minutes, the Magpies were reduced to 10 as James Comley picked up his second booking of the afternoon for a foul on Kyle Storer.

The Moors couldn’t find that elusive equaliser and, instead, Maidenhead were awarded another penalty. With the final kick of the game Barratt completed his hat-trick with an emphatic strike from 12 yards.
