The 36-year-old was out of contract in the summer of 2020, but the Moors made it clear from the outset that they wanted Carter to remain at the club in some capacity.
Player, Coach, Ambassador.
In September, Moors were delighted to announce that the experienced midfielder would remain available to Jimmy Shan for the 2020/21 campaign after signing an extended playing contract.
Since joining the club in the summer of 2017, Carter has made 125 appearances in the yellow and blue, scoring 12 goals.
He was an integral part and leader of the Great Escape side of 2017/18 which saw the team retain their National League status despite being bottom at Christmas.
The season after, Carter then took his performances to new heights as the Moors narrowly missed out on promotion in 2018/19.
Carter was the heartbeat of a squad which finished second, an agonising three points away from eventual champions Leyton Orient.
The combative midfielder may have seen a league medal slip away but he was consoled by a place in the National League’s Team of the Season.
Naturally, as Carter’s playing days come to an end, he has continued to make the transition to coaching.
During the current campaign, Carter has taken charge of sessions with the Moors at both first-team level and within the Football & Education programme.
As a popular figure in the area, Darren has also continued his club ambassador duties - a role which sees him attend commercial events, make community visits, and fulfil media duties.
